Reinier Zonneveld
Awakenings Festival 2022
Reinier Zonneveld at Awakenings Festival 2022 is what happens when a live techno virtuoso is given a mainstage and a mandate to destroy it. The vibe is pure, uncut adrenaline—a heaving mass of people surrendering to a BPM count that borders on the absurd. This is hard, fast, and relentless techno, averaging a blistering 147 BPM and primarily warping between the aggressive 3B and 12A keys.
The energy profile is dominated by a monstrous 72% low-end, a tectonic plate of bass over which razor-sharp hi-hats and screeching leads (only 2% high-end) provide the punishment. It’s a live set built on raw power and improvisational flair, using key changes and brutal drops to maintain a state of peak frenzy. The track selection is as eclectic as it is brutal.
Opening with the trance classic 'Ayla' remix is a brilliant, disorienting fake-out. From there, it’s a dive into the underground: Maxx’s 'No More' is a hardcore throwback, PS11’s 'Equilibrium' remix is a modern peak-time weapon, and Barthezz’s 'On The Move' is a nostalgic riff. The journey begins with that melodic tease, ascends into a relentless peak with tracks like Ruki Vverkh’s brutal '18 мне уже,' and finally collapses into the dark, closing atmosphere of Tendril’s 'Hollowpoint.'.
