Los Cabra
Mixmag Lab Goa
Another day, another Mixmag Lab, and we find Los Cabra holding court in Goa, presumably while the rest of us are frantically googling how to pronounce 'Cabra'. The search for that one elusive ID begins anew, this time in the realm of warm, rolling melodic house. The Lab's sterile lighting gives way to a percussive thrum, all low-end rumble and hypnotic loops designed for swaying, not shouting. Los Cabra locks into a steady 123 BPM groove, with the harmonic center firmly in 12A, weaving a tapestry of deep, melodic house.
The energy profile is overwhelmingly low-dominant, with minimal mid and high frequencies, creating a submerged, introspective feel that's perfect for late-night immersion. Mixing is smooth and patient, allowing tracks to breathe and evolve over subtle key modulations between 12A, 2A, and 5A. This is a set built on groove and atmosphere, not peak-time drops, with a masterful balance that keeps the floor locked in a deep, head-nodding trance. Highlights include Cioz's 'Pace e Amore', a lush, rolling deep house cut that epitomizes the vibe, and Reeson's 'Distant World', which adds a touch of cosmic melancholy.
The edit of Tinlicker & Robert Miles' 'Children' is a clever, emotional pivot that doesn't feel cheap, while Ludwin Pasi's 'Book Throw' brings raw, tribal percussion. Ivory (IT)'s 'Feelin'' is a sleeper hit of warm, bass-driven funk, and the 'Fendi belt' edit shows a playful, crate-digging spirit. From the mysterious opening ID, the set builds gently through deep house landscapes, peaking with the nostalgic rush of 'Children', before cooling down with Kirk Degiorgio's jazzy, downtempo 'West By South West'.
