Jody Wisternoff & James Grant - Anjunadeep 07
You have to laugh at the festival survivalists who turn up in tactical vests and full CamelBaks for a standard four-hour club night. They look ready to invade a small country, but they are just here to sweat out their weekend sins. Fortunately, this [DJ] live set is an absolute journey that actually warrants a bit of stamina. The underground bunker is pitch black save for a single, piercing laser, locking everyone into a proper deep groove.
The [DJ] [venue] tracklist is a sublime slice of melodic Techno, cruising effortlessly between 115 and 122 BPM. The harmonic control is incredible, heavily relying on the 12A key—used 12 times—along with 8B and 7A to build a steady, mesmerizing mid-range energy. The blends are so smooth you barely notice the tracks changing. The crate digging is phenomenal, pulling out Jody Wisternoff's remix of 'The Bridge' for a massive emotional peak.
Dropping the Maribou State edit of 'Rituals' is absolute scenes, catching everyone completely off guard. The voyage starts perfectly with the ambient opening track 'Go Slow' by Croquet Club. It slowly ramps up the tension before finally releasing the pressure with the iconic closing track, 'Skin Deep' by Dusky.
