DJ Rush - Awakenings Easter Festival 2022
Awakenings on Easter. Only in techno could a resurrection-themed festival involve being pummelled into a state of grace by 140 BPM. DJ Rush doesn’t do warm-ups; he does declarations of war, and this set is a relentless, peak-time hard techno sermon from the first kick drum. The vibe is pure industrial warehouse: strobes cutting through smoke, a sea of black t-shirts, and the collective nod.
Locked at a punishing 139.5 BPM average, the programming is a masterstroke of tension and release, heavily favoring the stark, driving energy of the 12A and 7A Camelot keys. The low-end is a tectonic plate, the mids are raw and metallic, and the highs are used sparingly as surgical strikes. Rush’s mixing is functional and fierce, prioritizing momentum over flourish. The tracklist is a history lesson: dropping Jeff Mills’s ‘The Bells’ is less a selection and more a mandatory rite of passage.
Frank Biazzi’s epic ‘Fiction’ provides a 14-minute odyssey of dystopian atmospherics, while Lilly Palmer’s ‘Don’t Look Back’ and the Coyu & Flug remix of Renato Cohen’s ‘Pontape’ deliver modern, peak-time muscle. It kicks off with an unknown weapon, reaches a fever pitch with the unhinged energy of ‘Lost In Mind’, and closes, perfectly, with the timeless Detroit anthem, DJ Rolando’s ‘Jaguar’.
