Of course DJ Rush would start with an ‘Unknown - Unknown’—the man has built a legacy on raw, unfiltered pressure, and this Awakenings ADE 2021 live set is a 136 BPM sermon from the church of the punishing kick. The vibe is pure warehouse grit, a sweaty, strobe-lit bunker where every bassline feels like a personal affront. Technically, it’s a lesson in minimal-maximalism: the BPM never wavers, but the keys dance between 12A’s stability and 6B’s darker, more dissonant hues, with the energy leaning hard into mid-range aggression and high-end percussion.
The mixing is utilitarian, all long blends and sudden cuts that keep the floor off-balance. The tracklist is a treasure trove of ugly beauty: ‘DJ Rush - Motherfucking Bass’ is the expected, glorious manifesto; ‘Gigi D’Agostino - Bla Bla Bla (Dark Mix)’ is a bizarre, wonderful edit that shouldn’t work; ‘Energy 52 - Café Del Mar’ appears like a cosmic joke; and the 14-minute ‘DJ Cutlass Supreme - Drop That Beat’ is a closing, heads-down marathon. It begins in obscurity, builds to that ‘Motherfucking Bass’ crescendo, and leaves us pummeled by that relentless final beat.
